Greetings music lovers!

Welcome to my website and thanks for being here!

I am a musician living in Los Angeles. From Sacramento and then Salt Lake City. Been living in LA for 9 years now.

I could best be described as a music lover. music! <3 music! <3 music! <3 I love the euphoric, flying feeling of performing, dancing around with my saxophone or flute celebrating the joy of music with everyone in the room. I love learning music. I love getting in creative zones making music by myself or with others. I love the peace and comfort that music can bring... or like that feeling when that fat booming bass makes ya drop your a$$ down low! bahahaha I find great fulfillment in playing with musicians of different musical backgrounds and perspectives. I have a small collection of super unique instruments including a fretless banjo that I cherish. I love funky, brushy drums... blissful melodies... colorful harmony... vibrant tones... dance parties... gentle music before bed time... joyful jazz on the street... funny sounds... singing karaoke... the magic of a well crafted song... technicolor arrangements... I am committed to yielding music as a tool for positivity & joy and am actively searching for opportunities to do that.

Being immersed in such vibrant musical communities in LA & Utah has made it easy to make so many fun musical projects over the years, each one unique and special! Check out albums & projects I've made on this music page and on my Bandcamp page.

I have been so lucky to play with many awe-inspiring musicians, people that have treated me with so much compassion & respect and that I have gleaned so much from. You can find a list of recordings I've been a part of on the guest appearances page.

I direct Community Band at Hermon Park, an all-ages, all-skill levels music project presented by Art in the Park & Neighborhood Music School. It's a dream-come-true project that has been active since 2018. Please join us! Come with an instrument to play or just come to hang out, listen, and enjoy the park.

I am married to Jessica Li -- a brilliant artist, musician, and cook. I'd love to point you to some of her projects: funky and fresh minimalist drum ā€˜nā€™ bass trio Picky Bunches, hand dyed Tenuguis, and a recent Dumpling workshop. We are currently living on the southern tip of Los Angeles in San Pedro with our 3 year old son Silas.

For those wondering how the hell I got so damn good at music -- I grew up in a musical family, fell in love with jazz at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, actively seeked and pursued every musical avenue I could find, was lucky to always be in jazz band and wind ensemble in highschool, hated marching band but still did it for a 2nd year. Was so fortunate to be a part of the welcoming all-ages DIY music scene in Utah, playing at places like Kilby Court and Velour while learning to write songs and make records in my friends' basement aka Puppet Love Studio. Then I studied music at Snow College (the jazz program was in partnership with Juilliard!) for 4 incredible years and then transfered to CalArts for one glorious year to graduate with my BFA in 2015. I've had many incredible teachers & mentors including Willie Applewhite, Alan Braufman, Christian Asplund, & Joshua Payne. I am continuing on the quest to greater comfort with my instruments and deepening & expanding my repertoire.
